Cape: Secure 5G Cellular Connection without Compromise

Cape’s mission is arguably one of our country's most pressing national security issues. Our phones and networks today are not secure—far from it. It’s very easy to track the movement and density of phones, creating incredible physical security risks. Imagine you’re an intelligence agent in the CIA navigating a crowded market in a volatile geopolitical landscape. Or, imagine you’re a soldier crossing an active battlefield. Each step you take, and every conversation you have can be monitored and exploited by adversaries. This makes secure mobile and telecom infrastructure absolutely vital for national defense, preventing the mass weaponization of cellular data and protecting sensitive information and lives.

We’ve already seen the consequences of not addressing these gaps. The weaponization of cellular location data in the Russia-Ukraine war, Taiwanese-China escalation, and even US bases in the Western Pacific Region have all demonstrated exactly how high stakes it is to continue with existing compromised cellular approaches.

That’s where Cape comes in. Founded by Palantir veteran and former Special Forces Sergeant John Doyle, Cape is building at the bleeding edge of cyber security and telephony. Their product is a Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO) that provides a security layer in the infrastructure of existing telephony 5G networks (e.g. AT&T, Verizon) available to consumers.

Unlike traditional networks, Cape’s software infrastructure enhances privacy and security without compromising connectivity, making it the first mobile carrier to do so. Their approach safeguards critical data while ensuring seamless communication and makes device-agnostic service possible.

Whether you’re a team lead using an iPhone on-prem at the Pentagon or a Naval officer operating on a local Android device in a sensitive area, you can control the privacy and security of your conversations, data, and movements. As the only independent, full-stack MVNO in the country today, Cape is quickly becoming essential for military operations and national security.

Fueled by this purpose, John has recruited an elite team to roll out Cape and is actively looking for great new recruits who want to join a culture of winning and rapid scale.

We have been lucky to be part of Cape’s journey since the very beginning in 2022 when we wrote their first Pre-Seed check. We’re also proud follow-on investors at the Seed, Series A, and now the company’s new $61 million Series B, led by A* and Andreessen Horowitz. Together, we’re excited to watch the revolution, this time in secure 5G.
